Welcome to the MBM Group! The MBM Group is actively involved in enviromental issues from habitat conservation to raising awareness on environmental matters, and the promotion of legislation to halt workplace bullying. Currently we are promoting the introduction of The Healthy Workplace Bill and participating in online activities to preserve endangered species and habitats. A video about Marlene, and the struggle to get workplace legislation, is currently online at http://nojobisworththis.com/ We have of course a special interest for the Carrizo Plain National Monument, where Marlene Braun was the Manager, and follow closely events there. For the latest news click here, or see the online newsletter Newsbytes. See also MissKT8s journal space for more news. You can give money every day to the Nature Conservancy ,one of the Managing Partners of the Carrizo Plain National Monument by clicking here . The MBM Group participates also at the moment in the Folding@home project at Stanford University, which studies protein folding. What is protein folding and how is folding linked to disease? Proteins are biology's workhorses -- its "nanomachines." Before proteins can carry out these important functions, they assemble themselves, or "fold." The process of protein folding, while critical and fundamental to virtually all of biology, in many ways remains a mystery. Moreover, when proteins do not fold correctly (i.e. "misfold"), there can be serious consequences, including many well known diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many Cancers and cancer-related syndromes. If you would like to join in the project, and you are using Windows look here for how to get started. If you have a MAC look here. If you wish to join us at Folding@home, just put in our team number in your personal details. Our team number is 48913. How's the team doing at Folding@home? click here to find out. To spread the word even more, there is now a MBM Group Yahoo page . Two good short videos that explain about the folding Project and how to participate :- http://www.youtube.com/v/FReRZfyaeb4 http://www.youtube.com/v/PUPLimoTtiY
